International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
Manchester artist and grime innovator Nika D is set to release his new single Lisa, a project created to raise awareness of domestic abuse and support Women’s Aid through all profits generated by the track.
Releasing today on 25 November 2025 via his own label, Bad Medic Records, the track coincides with the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The timing reflects a shared commitment between Nika D, Bad Medic Records and Manchester’s EY3 Media to highlight an issue affecting millions. According to the UK’s National Centre for Domestic Abuse, one in four women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, a statistic the team hopes to bring further attention to.
A Story Rooted in Realities Faced by Many
Lisa is a fictional narrative, but it draws from experiences that are unfortunately common. The track follows the story of a woman trapped in an abusive relationship that gradually erodes her confidence, ambitions, and safety. The song explores themes of control, emotional and physical harm, and the difficult choices made in moments of fear and desperation.
Nika D approaches the topic with a focus on storytelling, combining grime and UK hip-hop influences to deliver the narrative with clarity and impact.
A Cinematic Music Video Led by Manchester Creatives
The single is accompanied by a cinematic video created by Manchester-based agency EY3 Media, known for its #ISTHISOK campaign addressing gender-based violence. The film is directed by Hayley Thomas, with Emily Hagan as First AD and Martin Olczak as Director of Photography.
Actor Victoria Odlum leads the cast, bringing depth and authenticity to the character of Lisa.
Alongside the main storyline, the video includes scenes depicting police interviews and the aftermath of the events described in the track. The visual approach aims to present the broader cycle of harm, consequence, and the difficult questions surrounding how society responds to domestic abuse.
Perspectives From the Team
Thomas describes the project as an opportunity to tell an important story with honesty and care, while Odlum, a survivor of domestic violence, emphasises the value of giving voice to experiences that often remain hidden.
For Nika D, the track represents personal growth as an artist and a father, and his desire to create work that speaks to real issues while encouraging reflection and change.
